The Blasé Gentleman

The Blasé Gentleman

Three major French clichés: wine, croissants, and absolute jadedness!

I drew this for my friend J (Set on the forum). Set grew up in France, Alaska, then BC, so he’s like a reverse cookie: a crunchy French core surrounded by a gooey layer of CanadEnglishness : P  Being Quebec-French and having lived in Florida, I’m a queer cookie myself. That’s probably why we love to poke fun at each other.

We often talk about how everyone in Canada is so goody-two-shoes, while the tone in France is tiringly harsh; I thought I’d illustrate what it’s like to be in the middle, having to suppress the French fire to be a BC-gentleman : )

The background is a piece of blank photo paper that changed color after years of exposure to light. I think I may have treated it with chemicals at some point. I forget.

I meant to finish this in time for J’s birthday, but it took me ages to finish it. The hardest part was finding pens I could use on photo paper; most either don’t show at all, or dry too fast. I like to do water effects, but it has to hold, too! I ended up mixing different kinds of markers and pens… I used like 15 different ones ^.^;;

If you would like something drawn in this style, commissions are open!
